Most sore throats are caused by a virus infection which antibiotics cannot cure and will normally get better within 4 or 5 days.

Simple measures such as gargling every 4 hours with soluble Aspirin or soluble Paracetamol, or sucking lozenges will ease the discomfort while the infection clears on its own.

Please remember that children under the age of 12 should not be given Aspirin.
