Childhood Rashes

Many virus infections will cause a temporary rash, particularly in very young children, and the rash usually occurs as the illness is getting better.

Measles and German Measles are examples of this but both illnesses are now uncommon because of immunisation.

If a generalised rash occurs with a catarrhal illness, it will usually settle in 48 to 72 hours, and not be of any danger to anybody else.

If the child is ill or has a persistent sore throat then the doctor should be consulted.
