Background of the Surgery
|
The Celtic meaning for the name 'Hucclecote' is 'tall trees, lofty woods'. Early spellings of 'Hucclecote' also include 'Uchlecoed' which, when directly translated into modern English means 'Cottage of Ockle'. Hedgehogs have also been linked in folklore to Hucclecote. We have incorporated all these in our practice logo.
The Practice was established in the early part of the last century, originally covering Brockworth, Churchdown and even as far as Tewkesbury. Surgeries were originally in the doctor's houses, all of whom lived on a main road for ease of access for patients.
Separate purpose built surgeries were established in Churchdown during the 1960's, in Brockworth during the 1970s and at Hucclecote during 1962.
The Hucclecote surgery was doubled in size in 1990/91 and the waiting area and reception re-developed extensively in 1998.
